Throughout his life, David Nabity has been an outspoken champion of small business, as well as critic of big government, excessive regulation and irresponsible tax policy. From his position as a financial planner who supports small business, he has worked hard to educate and assist consumers, commercial organizations and government officials in the financial decisions they make.

At the age of 19, David, a BensonHigh School graduate and native Omahan, began his career in the life insurance business. By the time he was 24, he had opened his own agency. He developed a specialty assisting closely-held businesses with estate, buy-sell and retirement planning. He studied at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and through the AmericanCollege in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to obtain his financial designations, including CLU and ChFC. He received the prestigious LUTCF designation through a rigorous course of study administered by the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. In addition, he obtained numerous securities licenses so he could offer a wider variety of financial services to his clients. In the early 2000s, David went back to school to study at Grace University under Dr. James Eckman.

From the beginning of his career, David’s ideas were heard and appreciated, and he found himself in the public eye, where he continued his crusade supporting smart business and investments strategies, as well as smaller government and responsible tax policies. His public career began with an appearance on KFAB radio’s Gary Sadlemeyer show, and he went on to serve as Business and Financial News Editor for that station, with appearances five times a day. He progressed to a position as on-air Business and Financial News Commentator for WOWT Channel 6 television station in Omaha, and eventually produced a three-hour call-in show for KKAR radio called “Money Wise.” The programs centered on issues facing small business owners and often featured professional and business leaders who informed individual investors and Omaha’s business community about issues impacting them. These public appearances led to a series of public seminars on business, investment and financial planning.

In 1995, Randy Jensen, CFP®, joined David’s firm as a partner to manage the investment advisory division of the company. Randy and David formed Nabity-Jensen Investment Management, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisor, and transitioned to a full-service fee-based financial advisory firm. Randy’s management of investment services allowed David to pursue his first love—working with business owners to help them solve many of the financial problems they face. For that purpose, he created a Business Advisory Service, which offers a series of services that help companies pinpoint specific issues obstructing growth and provides a broad range of solutions that solve problems.

Over the years, David has been active in a variety of civic, church and political organizations, including taking a leadership role with the Young Republicans of Nebraska. He has served on numerous organizations and boards and worked to mentor others in the inner city, prison and mission fields. His commitment to public service led David to a run for the Republican nomination for Nebraska governor in 2004. It was an open seat when he began, but he found himself in an intense race with a newly-appointed incumbent governor and legendary football coach Tom Osborne. Although he was not successful in the primary, the spotlight gave him an opportunity to share his ideas and strategies for transforming government, which were widely accepted and have served to guide many in public office today.

After the primary, to keep the pressure on elected officials to push for smaller government, lower taxes and innovations in government processes, David founded the Nebraska Alliance for the Private Sector (NAPS), a political action committee that supports candidates who adopt a smaller government/lower taxes agenda. NAPS also works to defeat candidates beholden to big government and special interest groups.

If you are out and about in Omaha and the Midwest, you might be surprised to find David on another kind of public stage—the performance stage! He is an accomplished drummer and founder of the band, Higher Pursuit (www.higherpursuitjazz.com), a smooth jazz ensemble. He is also founder of the Midwest Smooth Jazz Society (www.midwestsmoothjazz.com). David works hard to create opportunities for musicians to perform and provide exceptional musical experiences for the people of the region.

His greatest accomplishment, however, is his 29 year marriage to his wife Kim and the raising his family of seven children. (back to top)
